"ROVE AND ROUND" EXHIBITION OF WINSING ART PLACE ATELIER

"AS I CREATE A WORK, I LIKE TO THINK THAT I AM PAINTING A PICTURE IN SAPCE."
Background
Suki Seokyeong Kang, a Korean artist, regards space as a container and breaks away from the established patterns of painting and expands the concept of painting to weaving, sculpture, installation, video, choreography. Korean Traditional historical vocabulary plays an important role in Kang's works. For example, Kang uses the grid concept from the "Jeongganbo" as a metaphor for space and modern society, and she also inspired by traditional dances "Chunaengmu" which used as a metaphor for everyone’s efforts to expand the limited field within the smallest space available to him or her in the society. Kang put herself as a mediator to combine different materials together to harmonize. By exploring the relationship between space and one's social status, Kang attempts to create a visual language which is based on Korean traditional painting with abstract, organic and geometric features.
Design
The work Rove and Round — face #19-02 is selected as the main visual, surrounding by the text arranged in a grid. The contrast centered work emphasizes a clear sense of space, and the skeleton and pattern of the work are displayed in a balanced manner. Tanseek Sans is choosen as the exhibition font to create a modern and balanced style; the strokes are slightly square with flexible structure, which has a natural rhythm when arranged, but also ensures a high quality of legibility. The font name means "harmony" in Arabic, just like the role of mediator, the artist neutrally explores the relationship between individuals and society through her artworks.
